Description: Sound (French), b&w, 24 min. Respected Swedish documentarist Arne Sucksdorff demonstrates the interdependence of the Scandinavian nations by tracing the exchange of goods and services produced by a Danish farmer, a Swedish shipyard welder and a Norwegian sailor. But Scandinavians are also part of the living stream of Europe and the world, as witness the arrival of needed oil, ship's plates and farm tractors under Marshall Plan aid. The themes—to help others is to help oneself, and peace depends on economic security—yield place to the visual poetry of Sucksdorff's camera work. 1950. Produced and directed by Arne Sucksdorff, Svenskfilm, Stockholm, for ECA Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
