Description: Silent, b&w, 1+ min. The third anniversary of Marshall aid to Greece is marked by a ceremony at Thermopylae. The ceremony symbolizes Greek determination to keep safe from aggression the economic prosperity she has regained during the last three years thanks to the Marshall Plan. U.S. Ambassador Purefoy, accompanied by Roger D. Lampham (Lapham? sp?), Col. Phillips, and other ECA personalities gather at Thermopylae. The Americans are met by two Ministers, M Lampropoulos and M Malamidas, General Pedjopoulos, and M Savas Hodjis, the Nomarch (a local government official). There is an infantry guard of honor, and the battle ground is surrounded by soldiers. After the blessing by the Archbishop of Lamia, the Nomarch and General Pedjopoulos, and Mr. Purefoy speak. A girl symbolizing Greece, surrounded by 48 other girls representing each of the states of the U.S., presents a bouquet to Mr. Purefoy, who then plants an olive tree on the hillside in memory of the 300 Spartans. 1951.
